COSMO MOBILI|With the warmth of logs, build a minimalist and bright living space
Located in Jinan, Shandong, this residence designed by Kemu emphasizes "functional optimization and lifestyle integration" to meet the owner's need for both practicality and personalized space. By reconfiguring the original layout, the 205㎡ duplex unit now features distinct zones that serve daily life while reflecting each family member's character, blending a wood-infused minimalist aesthetic with lived-in warmth.
Common Area | Seamless Connection, Fluid Living.
The foyer, as the starting point of the homecoming ritual, seamlessly blends the purity of lacquer finish with the warmth of wood, creating a clean and orderly living atmosphere.
The first floor, serving as the main area for family communal life, features a design that removes unnecessary walls from the original layout, integrating the living room and study into a unified domain. This not only expands the visual space but also thoughtfully creates a dedicated corner for the female homeowner to practice calligraphy and store books.
The entire space adopts a pure white color palette complemented by natural wood textures, enhancing the sense of order and simplicity within the home.
The sofa and the Botta desk are positioned back-to-back, with a clear passageway left in between, creating a layout that embodies "a seamless blend of rationality and sensibility" from every angle.
Furthermore, the custom cabinets along the front and rear walls enhance the vertical spatial continuity, while the floor-to-ceiling windows flood the living area with natural light, adding depth and dimension. The floating thin-profile TV wall eliminates the need for bulky base cabinets, allowing for a clean and flexible layout. The TV unit and the adjacent display cabinet create a sense of progression, while the study and utility storage are discreetly separated by a wall, achieving a clear functional zoning. Each area is thoughtfully connected, quietly narrating the homeowner’s well-organized daily life.
The living room and dining area are seamlessly integrated, allowing for a fluid transition between spaces. The kitchen features an open layout with U-shaped cabinetry, while the customized island and round table are designed to perfectly accommodate the couple's minimalist dining habits.
Private Bedrooms | Personal Serenity, Quiet Comfort.
The master bedroom eschews excessive adornment, using a wooden headboard wall panel with subtle linear contours to create a serene ambiance. The room is furnished with a Batory bed accompanied by asymmetrical nightstands—one crafted from violet-red marble, the other a minimalist black lacquer side table.
This arrangement provides a dedicated spot for bedtime reading materials like magazines.
The daughter’s room is designed around a theme of “restraint and tranquility.” The headboard wall panel extends seamlessly into the writing desk and wardrobe, with gentle, flowing lines that evoke an intellectual elegance. The Ethan bed, floating low without a headboard, complements this layout, exuding a sense of avant-garde freedom. A Guer stool upholstered in a modern houndstooth fabric—contrasting yet harmonizing with the bed—adds a touch of playful sophistication, showcasing thoughtful design throughout.
The elderly bedroom continues the overall minimalist atmosphere. The Nyoman bed, with its low wraparound headboard, seamlessly connects with the backdrop wall panel and the window, enhancing both comfort and a sense of security for the elderly.
The Lower Level | Expanded Living, Private Relaxation.
The lower level is designed with the core concept of "breaking the sense of enclosure," naturally connecting the entryway, tea room, light well landscape area, and rest area. White walls and cabinetry interplay with light and dark wood tones, creating a serene and meditative space.
The entryway cabinet features a cantilevered design, complemented by slatted wall panels and a rounded decorative column, adding a touch of Zen inspiration to the modern style.
The leisure area features a sofa and tea chairs upholstered in light-colored linen fabric. Their clean lines articulate the essence of minimalism, allowing a sense of relaxation to permeate the space naturally.
The bedroom area and leisure zone are separated by a bathroom. To maintain a sense of openness and avoid visual heaviness, both walls of the bathroom are designed with glass windows. The wooden finish, softened by natural light, creates a gentle visual impression, achieving a seamless integration of function and aesthetics.
The designer implemented a sliding door that opens and closes smoothly, enhancing both serenity and privacy within the space.
Given the elongated layout of the lower level, the designer incorporated a pocket door to carve out a dedicated walk-in closet adjacent to the bedroom.
From the boundary-free shared spaces on the first floor to the private tranquility of the bedrooms and the extended living functions on the lower level, this 205㎡ duplex basement apartment uses "wood + minimalism" as its core design language, achieving a perfect balance between functional optimization and aesthetic expression. The designer not only reconfigured the spatial layout but also delved deeply into the homeowners' lifestyle needs, ensuring each zone reflects the preferences of the family—the female owner’s calligraphy corner, the male owner’s leisure tea room, the thoughtful details for the elderly, and the daughter’s intelligent personal space all take shape through the warmth of wood and the clarity of minimalist design. Ultimately, the space serves not just as a container for living, but as a vivid portrait of their lifestyle, where every detail reveals a genuine love and respect for life.
